CALABAR -The Cross River State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 29-year-old man, Emmanuel Effiong Ita, whose body was discovered in connection with a Honda City vehicle along the Target–Udy King axis of Calabar South Local Government Area.
Ita, a bolt driver was allegedly stabbed to death by three unidentified robbers in Calabar, Cross River State, after he reportedly refused to hand over the key to his Toyota Corolla.
The driver, who was operating a Toyota Corolla with registration number UYY 256H, was said to have picked up the three men along Mbukpa Road in Calabar South and was heading towards Calabar Municipality.
According to an eyewitness, the driver was unaware that the passengers were allegedly armed robbers until they ordered him to stop and surrender the vehicle’s key.
The suspects reportedly threatened the driver while he was driving at full speed and when he resisted their demand, they allegedly stabbed him.
The injured driver was said to have managed to drive to a nearby filling station, where he veered into a gutter and hit the pavement before the three suspects fled the scene.
Passersby reportedly rushed to his aid and took him to the General Hospital, Calabar, where he was confirmed dead.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River State, ASP Eitokpah Akata, said the command had commenced investigation into the matter.
He said, “the Command is aware of an incident involving the death of a 29-year-old man, identified as Emmanuel Effiong Ita, of Ikot Effanga Mkpa, Calabar, whose body was discovered in connection with a Honda City vehicle along the Target–Udy King axis of Calabar on 28 August 2026″.
Upon receiving the information, Akata added, Police personnel were immediately deployed to the scene explaining further that the deceased’s remains had, however, been taken by his family to the General Hospital Mortuary, where preliminary examination revealed an injury on his chest.
The PPRO, maintained that “the Command has commenced a preliminary investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
“His vehicle has been recovered, while relevant evidence is being preserved for further forensic and investigative examination,” he hinted.
