Former Flying Eagles and Akwa United Football Club Coach , Aliyu Zubair has been officially unveiled as the Technical Adviser of Sudanese giants, Al Ahly Wad Madani.
The unveiling ceremony took place in Kigali, Rwanda, Friday where the Sudanese club is currently holding its preparations ahead of its CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
Zubair, who signed a two-year contract with Al Ahly Wad Madani, takes charge of the club following his departure from Egyptian second-tier side, Telecom SC, where he enjoyed a productive spell before mutually agreeing to part ways with the club.
The Nigerian coach arrives at Al Ahly Wad Madani with a clear mandate to strengthen the team and guide the club through both domestic and continental competitions. His immediate challenge will be the CAF Confederation Cup, with Al Ahly set to face Kenyan side Tusker in the first preliminary round.
Speaking during his unveiling , Zubair was delighted at taking charge of the historic Sudanese club and acknowledged the magnitude of the task ahead.
“Al Ahly Madani is another huge challenge for me. It is a great club with rich history and high ambitions,” Zubair said.
“I am looking forward to working with the players, the management and the fans to achieve our objectives, especially as the team prepare to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.”
The appointment further underlines the rapid growth of Zubair’s coaching career, having worked across different football environments and continued to establish himself as one of Nigeria’s emerging coaches with international experience.
Zubair guided Gombe United , and Elkanemi Warriors to gain promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) ,in 2021and 2024 , respectfully .
He won the 2024 President Federation Cup with Elkanemi Warriors. 1- 2.
He was an assistant coach when Akwa United won the FA Cup trophy in 2017.
He was subsequently appointed the chief coach of Akwa United between 2017-2018.
He also won the WAFU-B U-20 tournament in 2024 and secured bronze at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations to qualify the Flying Eagles for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
