CALABAR -Armed robbery attack in Effraya Village, Etung Local Government Area of Cross River State has left one Amachi Victor, 36 robbed of 5,000 US Dollars( N6,646,831,65), equivalent with gunshot.
A source, said the victim was immediately rushed to a hospital in Ikom, where he is currently receiving medical attention and responding to treatment.
Victor, alleged that he was robbed of the sum of Five Thousand United States Dollars (US$5,000) during the incident.
A locally fabricated pistol suspected to have been used in the incident has been recovered and secured as an exhibit by the Police.
Reacting to the incident, the Cross River State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected member of a local vigilante group, Ushie Joseph ,a male ,36 years.
The Police Public Relations Officer ASP Sunday Akata, said preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect allegedly attacked and shot the victim with a locally fabricated pistol during the incident.
He added that the Police detectives have visited the reported scene of the incident and the hospital as part of ongoing investigations, explaining that the allegation remains subject to investigation and will be established through evidence and due legal process.
Akata further explained in a statement that following intelligence-led efforts, police operatives tracked the suspect to his hideout and arrested him. while further investigative procedures are being undertaken to establish its connection to the offence.
He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Ordue, has directed the investigating team to conduct a thorough and professional investigation and ensure that all relevant evidence is properly documented.
