UYO-The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 6, Headquarters, AIG Rashid Afegbua has cautioned officers and men against conduct capable of undermining public confidence in the Police.
These include corruption, indiscipline, abuse of authority and other forms of unprofessional behaviour.
The AIG gave the charge while paying an official visit to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command Headquarters, Uyo, Monday, where he interacted with officers and men of the Command and provided strategic guidance on effective policing, discipline and operational excellence.
He stressed that effective policing goes beyond physical presence, noting the importance of credible intelligence, strategic deployment, proper supervision and timely response in preventing and combating crime.
Afegbua called for stronger collaboration with sister security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders, stressing that sustainable security requires effective partnership between the Police and the communities they serve.
With the country approaching another electoral season, the AIG reminded personnel of their responsibility to remain politically neutral, fair and professional, while providing a safe and peaceful environment for all lawful political activities.
He urged commanders at all levels to lead by example and maintain effective supervision over personnel under their command.
Afegbua, commended the personnel for their dedication and urged them to remain disciplined, professional, courageous and responsive in the discharge of their duties.
The AIG also commended the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, for his leadership of the Command and the strides recorded in maintaining peace and security across Akwa Ibom State.
He also acknowledged the Command’s operational efforts and encouraged the CP to sustain the momentum while continually improving on areas requiring greater attention.
The Commissioner of Police , Azare who described the visit as significant and timely ,highlighted the Command’s efforts in tackling kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, drug-related offences, violent crimes and other emerging security challenges through intelligence-led operations, proactive policing, visibility patrols, community engagement and collaboration with sister security agencies.
Azare appreciated the AIG for the visit and for the valuable interaction with personnel, noting that the engagement provided the Command with further strategic direction and professional insight.
The visit formed part of the AIG’s supervisory engagement with formations under Zone 6 and provided an opportunity for direct interaction with personnel, assessment of the Command’s operational posture and reinforcement of the professional standards expected of officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
The engagement also afforded officers and men the opportunity to receive professional guidance directly from the Zone 6 leadership and further reinforced the principles of discipline, integrity, respect for human rights and service to the nation.
