Great Football Family (GFF), has officially unveiled its secretariat with the bestowing of an” Award of Excellence”on the Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey.
The secretariat which is located at the Uyo Township Stadium, is made of a club house, bar and facilities for indoor games.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, Wednesday ,the president of Great Football Family (GFF), Mr Emmanuel Akpan, an engineer ,said securing a space at the stadium for their meetings and other social functions of the group was his top priority, having been holding meetings at unconducive spot within the stadium.
He said the space was secured and furnished within two months of the present executive.
The GFF president said apart from the secretariat, his administration has achieved a lot which has taken Great Football Family to an enviable height, thereby making other sport groups to look at GFF with admiration.
Akpan, appreciated the commissioner for sports, for his constant support to the group and for allowing them to use the space, pledging total support of GFF to him and promised that GFF will continue to contribute meaningfully to his success in the office.
He further explained that GFF was made up of footballers, referees, media personnel, coaches, sports administrators, and that members were open for any sport related assignment the Ministry of Sports may deem it fit to engage them.
Akpan used the opportunity to applaud his executive members, stakeholders as well as members of GFF for their support even as he promised to achieve more for the group.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Sports, Bassey was happy over the new secretariat and praised the Akpan-led executive for their achievements.
Bassey further commended GFF for the harmony and togetherness among members, adding that his Ministry was open to useful ideas that will make the state succeed in terms of sports.
The sports commissioner urged GFF members to continue to support the Governor Umo Eno -led administration, saying that sports in Akwa Ibom under the present administration has gone higher from discovering of talents, participating in major tournaments and building of infrastructure.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of Award of Excellence to the commissioner for sports.
The unveiling was followed immediately with a brief weekly meeting and a novelty match between Great Football Family and Uyo All Stars , which ended in a 1:1 draw.
