CALABAR
A 29-year-old man, Saviour Otu Adim, who recently murdered his six-years- old stepdaughter, Miss Goodness Ekpo Okon, has been arrested by the Cross River State Police Command.
Adim, accused his stepdaughter of being a witch and was arrested following a report lodged on Friday, August 28, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m. by Mrs Itoro Udofia, who alleged that Adim assaulted the child, leading to her death.
Cross River Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah Akata in a statement, says preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect had allegedly accused the deceased of being a witch.
The suspect is currently in police custody, while the remains of the child have been deposited at a mortuary for autopsy.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Calabar, for further investigation.
The Police Command urged members of the public to protect children, promptly report suspected cases of abuse and avoid spreading unverified information or resorting to self-help.
