ABUJA — Health technology innovator and entrepreneur, Ebozoje Deogratias Segun, has called on the Federal Government to prioritise collaboration and build a stronger primary healthcare system as the surest path to achieving equitable and sustainable healthcare in Nigeria.
Segun, who is the Chief Executive Officer of GenLab Integrated Services Limited and Founder of Docroa Healthcare Kits, made the call on Friday at the Her Health, Her Power Conference Africa 2026, held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja ,recently.
Speaking as a panelist on Leadership and Innovation as well as Mental Wellness, Segun said the bulk of Nigeria’s population resides in rural communities and therefore deserves healthcare systems that are affordable, accessible and sustainable , not just technology-driven.
“Nobody should suffer from the fact that he cannot afford healthcare. And everybody should be able to have access to quality healthcare,” he told participants at the conference themed, “Leading with Wellness for a Sustainable Africa.”
He described the conference, hosted by the Vickyheldan Empowerment Foundation, as “inspirational” and “an event that we’ve all been clamouring for,” noting that more could be achieved when stakeholders work together instead of operating in isolation.
“Empowering a woman is empowering a nation. And for a woman to be empowered, she needs to take care of her health,” Segun said. “That’s why this health conference is taking place today.”
Segun, creator of Docroa, an AI-enabled digital healthcare platform, said his work integrates telemedicine, remote patient monitoring and locally assembled medical devices to strengthen healthcare delivery across Africa.
Driven by the belief that access to quality care “should never be determined by geography, income or circumstance,” he said he remains committed to leveraging technology to expand equitable access to healthcare.
At the conference, he also contributed expertise in digital media, health communication and storytelling to conversations focused on advancing healthier, more informed and empowered communities across Africa.
To the Federal Government, Segun’s message was direct: “Collaboration. Build a stronger primary health care system because that is where the populace is. And collaborate with founders to build stronger systems.”
He also urged families, men and women, to prioritise preventive care.
“It is very important for us to check on ourselves regularly. And also ensure that we don’t burn out. And it is okay to rest,” he said.
The conference, convened by Dr. Victory Ifeoma Njoku, Founder of Vickyheldan Empowerment Foundation, brought together leaders, healthcare professionals, policymakers, innovators, entrepreneurs and advocates to discuss women’s health, maternal and reproductive health, mental wellness, preventive healthcare, innovation and sustainable solutions.
In her welcome message, Dr. Njoku said the gathering was “designed to spark meaningful conversations, build powerful connections, and drive action toward a healthier and more empowered Africa.”
“Your registration is more than attendance. It is your place in a growing movement committed to turning conversations into commitments and commitments into action,” she stated.
With hundreds in attendance, organisers said Her Health, Her Power aims to become an annual platform for turning policy dialogue into tangible impact for women and girls across the continent.
